The book, In The Sweet By and By, by Joyce Osborn
Wilson, tells the true story of a family
living and dying in a small Appalachian town of rural Kentucky. People
were poor, times
were hard, but they were survivors. Most of the story depicts life in the first
half of the 20th
century.
In this book Wilson provides an account from her mother's diaries of what it
was like to
depend on hunting, fishing, home gardens and the coal mines to survive.
Winters were
harsh, black lung disease took men's lives at an early age, and medical care
was minimal.
Many women and children died during child birth. Large families were the
norm. They were
closely knit by love and by necessity for one another.
Reading this book is like going back in time to a place and a way of life that
in part still exists
today. I found myself captivated by the strength of families, the capacity for
hard work and
the Christian faith of so many. Through all the tragedies and hardships, a
character
developed that gave birth to what is called the strength of America.

Loved all of these special books by Joyce Osborn Wilson. They excited me, angered me, and pulled at my heart strings. Several of the best books I have ever read. I could feel each emotion when reading these books. Definitely have recommend them to many of my friends. Really special books. Can't wait to see what Joyce releases next. Joyce, your book is wonderful! Heartbreaking because of all the tragedy but such an interesting read. I love how it’s part memoir and part novel with so much detailed dialogue along with the history. Your descriptions of the mountains and the characters are beautiful and so compelling. I love how you talk about the seasons and how the family had to adapt to weather, to economic changes, and to so much tragedy. I enjoyed learning the politics of the mining industry and other world events and how they tied in to the story. Learning how hard it was to survive was an eye-opener. I have great admiration for your Mother’s faith and how it brought her through. She was so blessed to have you. All of it makes for a wonderful story, even more so since it’s true. It’s a treasure for you and your children and grandchildren and generations to come.
Thank you so much for sharing your book! It’s so inspirational and a testimony to faith. I would love to purchase a copy for the church library. Let me know if one is available or where I can order it.

read I recommend "In The Sweet By and Bye.” I absolutely could not put this book down
until I finished.
Listen everyone!!!! I received this beautiful cookbook today. Now, I have lots of cookbooks (not the greatest cook) but this book puts them ALL to shame. It's full of mouthwatering recipes. My description of this cookbook is fancy/simple. Simple because the recipes are so easy to follow. The old time recipes are to die for!!! Every good/bad cook should have this cookbook. Thank you Joyce for your time, hard work, and for sending this book. You have done a splendid job. One more thing, you can bet that wonderful black walnut cake will grace my table during the holiday season.
